National Heritage Week is coordinated in Ireland by the Heritage Council in conjunction with the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht, and is part of European Heritage Days, which is celebrated in over 49 countries across Europe. In August 2013 Whitegate Community Council in association with Alfie O'Brien, organized a historical tour of Clonrush Graveyard.
The tour focused on a selection of monuments or the graves of persons mostly with no descendants now living in Whitegate, but many have relatives living in other places or countries. The principal surmames or families and sites mentioned were:
